Testosterone is the primary male sex hormone — and it’s far more than just about sex drive. How Do You Measure Testosterone?
The gold standard is a serum total testosterone blood test — a simple lab draw that your doctor orders. At-home finger-prick tests (like Everlywell or LetsGetChecked) can give you a ballpark, but a venous draw at a clinic is more accurate.
Blood tests measure total testosterone (all T in your blood) and often free testosterone (the unbound fraction your body actually uses). For men over 40, testing in the morning (when T peaks) gives the most accurate reading.
